The Kentucky Film Institute is committed to developing and enhancing the film industry in the state of Kentucky by fusing the professional world with the education world. Established in 2008, The Kentucky Film Institute is a non-profit organization committed to a unique model of film education and development. The KY Film Institute provides hands-on specialized skill training, which fosters individual and collaborative creative development, and serves as a testing ground for the application of emerging film technologies. Based in Lexington, KY, the KY Film Institute creates opportunities for college and university students throughout the state of Kentucky to gain invaluable experience working along side film industry professionals on real, budgeted feature film projects produced and or co-produced by Lucky Day Studios. The KY Film Institute and Lucky Day Studios, enables students to become skilled professionals, artistic visionaries, a pioneers of emerging film technologies in an ever changing medium.

Storytelling has always been a powerful communication tool. Everyone has a story. The KY Film Institute offers college and university students in the state of Kentucky the opportunity to participate in Story Development Labs. Modeled after Robert Redford’s, Sundance Theatre Institute and Sundance Film Lab, The KY Film Institute’s Story Development Seminars are free to Kentucky college and university students.

The KY Film Institute’s Story Development Labs place students in a creative environment where they learn to collaborate on story and script development as well as learning the art of story pitching. The goal of each lab is to develop a story idea and exit the lab with a script outline that can be developed further and produced using college and university students in key production roles.
